The marble printing is an extremely delicate technique that requires a lot of time and precision. Our marble prints are made by very skilled and talented artisans in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.
The marbling technique is a quite ancient process that was initiated in Japan during the early 12th century on paper.
On fabric the procedure is still very similar to the ancient technique developed earlier on paper.
In a big rectangular water bath we introduce various colours with an oily substance made of cellulose to keep the colours suspended on the surface. With the help of a wooden stick we mix the colours on the surface and draw the marble pattern. The fabric is fixed on a frame and placed on the water surface for a few minutes until the colours bind to the fabric. Later on the fabric frame is carefully pulled off and extended to wash off the colour excesses and finally hung up to dry.
